Breastfeeding Stories
I started this project during the Irish National Breastfeeding Week 2020. I wanted to take a series of portraits of mums and the child(ren) they breastfed and to share their story to celebrate the breastfeeding mum.
This is a topic that is close to my heart. I come from a breastfeeding family, in many cases extended feeders, there was no other option for me - it was my normal. But the longer I feed my children (9 years and counting) the more I realise that it isn’t everyone’s normal and often due to lack of support or information. Last year I finished my training as a Cuidiu breastfeeding counsellor and while that provides a wonderful opportunity to provide information and support to mothers, it doesn’t necessarily reach out to mother who may not be at that point in their lives where key information is important. National Breastfeeding Week provides an opportunity to show the wonder and beauty of what has become my greatest achievement and gift to my children. I hope you enjoy the the stories and photos that follow. These women are inspirational.
