Breastfeeding Stories - Patricia

This is Patricia and her beautiful little girl Robyn, these are her words.

Breastfeeding for me was something I always wanted to try but I didn’t want to put any pressure on myself if it didn’t work out. Robyn was born 2weeks early so I needed to hand express initially but soon she was latching and I was delighted. I loved that I was able to feed her. It blew my mind that the baby that grew inside me was here and I was able to give her what she needed. It felt really special.

It definitely wasn’t easy in the beginning and then I got the dreaded mastitis when Robyn was six weeks old. Thankfully I was able to feed through it and after a course of antibiotics I was back on track.

Due to lockdown there was no in person breastfeeding groups to attend however my sister had breastfed and was able to give me lots of advice and reassurance that I was doing ok.

We are now nearly 8 months into our breastfeeding journey and I’m so grateful for the bond this experience has given us.
