Breastfeeding Stories - Finn

This is Finn and her youngest child, beautiful Juno. These are her words.

Juno Luna is my youngest, born in Dublin, Ireland, October 2020. She has two older brothers, Elwood and Otis. who were born in Sydney, Australia. I breastfed all three of my babies but had completely different experiences with each. I learned so much along the way, about my body, about my kids. The big learning for me was: it really takes a village. I can't imagine having been able to breastfeed without all the professionals, family members and volunteers, especially Cuidiu counsellors encouraging us and giving practical help. Especially my husband, Matt.

To me, breastfeeding is a two-way relationship, it's about sustaining my kids as well as the closeness when they twirl your hair in their tiny fingers or the funny moments when they get angry with boobie for some abstract reason.

It wasn't all plain sailing but the good parts far outweighed the hard times. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to feed each of my three as long as we could.

I also feel privileged I had the economic means to seek extra support when I needed it. It's a crying shame that each mother in Ireland isn't given a real choice to breastfeed their babies or not.

I am a little sad that part of my life is over but grateful for all the memories.
